about

Drawing heavily from folk and indie influences, “Orbit” represents the third and final single taken from Tutara Peak’s forthcoming sophomore EP, Of the Nescient Mind - out this February. The EP represents a foray by Tutara Peak into varying sonic worlds, retaining his signature lush layering, ethereal synth and guitar work, and calculated melodic sensibilities. In Orbit, Winifred’s soaring yet delicate vocal performance ebbs and flows atop gentle guitar strumming, pulling the listener closer in until the arrangement explodes into a colorful climax of driving drums and bright synths to close out the track.

“[Tutara Peak and I] wanted ‘Orbit’ to be the kind of song you would listen to in space, it has this floating dreaminess, but also a grounding quality that brings you back to earth when you’re lost in space,” explains Winifred. “It’s about being at peace with (or absorbing) what you can’t control, what can’t/won’t change, and what will never be.” Tutara Peak adds: “Songs which house endless possibilities are the ones that inspire me the most. This was one of those, it allowed me to try ideas I don’t usually explore in my music.”

lyrics

Nothing ever works in our favour
I’m just out here trying to savour

You were the first of your kind in my orbit
I wish the stars would align
But they don’t so I just absorb it

They don’t so I just absorb it
They don’t so I just absorb it
They don’t so I just absorb it
They don’t so I just absorb it

I need a signal
Some kind of flashing light
Some kind of sign
Something to ease my mind

Nothing ever works in our favour
You were the first of your kind in my orbit
I wish the stars would align
But they don’t so I just absorb it

They don’t so I just absorb it
They don’t so I just absorb it
They don’t so I just absorb it
They don’t so I just absorb it
They don’t so I just absorb it
They don’t so I just absorb it
They don’t so I just absorb it
They don’t so I just absorb it

Echoes find their way back to me
We’re aeons apart no it’s not meant to be this hard, this hard, this hard
All is said and done

Nothing ever, nothing ever, nothing ever, works in our favour
Nothing ever, nothing ever, nothing ever, works in our favour

You were the first of your kind
In my orbit
I wish the stars would align
