about
Tutara Peak, the brainchild of the multifaceted multi-instrumentalist, composer, and producer Harvey Carter, is back with a new single, “Gold in Autumn,” set for release on October 18, 2023 via Fast Friends. The track is a study in contradictions: It’s simple and delicate, yet textured and lush. It’s an instrumental track, yet tastefully-arranged vocal samples add humanity. It’s electronic and computer-y, yet graceful piano and a guitar-driven emotional release lead the way in its final build and climax. Despite these contradictions — or, more likely, because of them — “Gold in Autumn” is cohesive and impactful, equal parts art piece and feel good, dance-in-your-bedroom banger.
For Carter, finishing the track did not come without its challenges and roadblocks. The intro sat as an unfinished draft for months, until he realized he always got a “strong sense of excitement” from that snippet. “When I eventually approached expanding upon the intro, I wanted to maintain that feeling throughout the whole song. I quickly smashed through writing most of the track until it came to the final chorus. I must’ve made at least 3-4 different versions of this section - some felt awesome but most just weren’t right for the song,” explains Carter. “Inspiration usually comes from the process of creating as opposed to before I begin creating.”
Tutara Peak’s music is influenced by a range of artists, from the ambient ethereal post-rock of Sigur Ros and the innovative indie rock of American Football, to the intricate guitar work of Blake Mills, the soothing electronica of Tycho, and the contemporary classical compositions of Olafur Arnalds and Eric Whitacre. Compositionally, “Bassika: Assembly” draws from these influences and more, but the recording stands on its own as a uniquely ambitious imprint.

Ekcle have a special place in my heart. They blend different styles and types of sound together, and somehow manage to make it all sound astonishing, surreal, coherent and fresh every time. Nikki
Noisia style neurofunk meets glitch hop, IDM, jazz, world, ambient, elevator music, and who knows what else. This amalgam of genres has no right to work, but KOAN Sound somehow pulled it off, creating perhaps one of the most innovative albums ever. Every song is fantastic, either being a banger, atmospheric, emotive, or all three at once. furrybeans
